Respected New Brighton, PA businessman & long time truck dealer Passes at the age of 87.
Respected businessman and longtime truck dealer Thomas Meehan died at the age of 87. As Meehan’s friends tell it, he worked right up until the end. The work ethic an attention to detail is what made Meehan, described by a co-worker as “self-made” and by his son as a workaholic. Meehan’s daughter said he moved to Beaver County in 1964 with his wife & together they opened a truck dealership. Something coined as “radical” at the time. Nowadays if you default on a car loan the bank takes your vehicle. Back then, if someone defaulted the dealer had to take it back.
Meehan’s personality was as big as the trucks he sold and leased. While he sold smaller equipment and pickups, most of Meehan’s business was selling big 18 wheel rigs to truckers.
He was the John Wayne, Wild West kind of man. She said, you could trust his word based on a handshake, but don’t cross him. He could chew you up down to the ankles if you didn’t do what you said you would.
Meehan was known throughout the area for his keen business skills and his desires to help others in any way possible. Whether it is finding the best vehicle for a buyer or helping a friend to buy or sell land, he was always someone that could be counted on for help.
While Meehan loved his work, he was also an avid hunter and loved the horses that were always a presence on his family’s farm. He also loved his family, including 3 children.
Joanne Brandon wasn’t part of the family, but she might as well have been. She worked as an office manager at the dealership for the last 40 years and said Meehan will be sorely missed.
